Alexander Named Vice Chairman of Appropriations Subcommittee

WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Appropriations Chairman Hal Rogers today announced that U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, will serve as Vice Chairman of Labor, Health, and Human Services (LHHS) Subcommittee for the 112th Congress.

“This new role on the LHHS Subcommittee of Appropriations is a great opportunity for me to serve the best interests of the 5th District, and the rest of Louisiana,” said Alexander. “I am truly honored and excited to work in this capacity to answer the call of Americans in reducing wasteful government spending.”

As Vice Chairman of this Appropriations Subcommittee, which oversees funding for the Department of Education, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Food and Drug Administration and the Department of Labor, Alexander will work to secure financial support for initiatives essential to the lives of every person.

“As many hard-working individuals continue to struggle during these tough economic times, Congress must make tough decisions in the days ahead. This assignment give me an avenue to directly influence key issues affecting people on a daily basis, such as job creation and security, access to quality health care and ample education opportunities,” Alexander continued.

In his release announcing the Vice Chairs of the 12 Appropriations Subcommittees, Rogers stated, “These Members are an excellent group of talented, dedicated individuals that are more than ready for the difficult work of cutting spending and crafting frugal and responsible federal budgets. As Vice-Chairs, they will be an essential part of a successful Appropriations process.”
