LABI Elects Officers and Board for 2011
(Baton Rouge, LA) — The Louisiana Association of Business and Industry (LABI), a statewide business organization, held its election of officers on January 12, 2011 during its 36th annual membership meeting in Baton Rouge. Founded in 1975, LABI is an association of 3,500 member companies representing approximately 6,600 business women and men across the state. About 80 percent of LABI’s members own or operate small businesses with 50 or fewer employees. LABI’s members share a common goal: to bring strategic focus to business issues before legislative, judicial and regulatory bodies in Louisiana and to improve the state’s business climate.
Clay M. Allen, Managing Partner, Allen & Gooch, A Law Corporation, Lafayette, was elected LABI’s Chairman of the Board. Allen & Gooch first joined LABI in December 1988, and Allen has served on LABI’s Board of Directors since 2005. He was elected to LABI’s Executive Committee in 2006, holding the offices of Treasurer (2008), Secretary (2009), and Vice Chairman (2010). Allen has more than 25 years of experience in counseling corporations and boards of directors on issues of corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, and matters of corporate finance. In his role as Managing Partner, Clay works with corporate counsel to develop strategy and assemble multi-disciplinary teams to pursue claims in high stakes business litigation and to defend class and collective actions.
With an extensive knowledge of government and public policy, Allen has devoted much of his time and resources to the betterment of Louisiana, and he has developed a statewide reputation as a civic leader. He is a co-founder of Blueprint Louisiana, an historic reform movement leading to Louisiana’s adoption of the highest standard of governmental ethics in the country. He is also a trustee and serves as Chairman of the Board of Lafayette General Medical Center, the largest full-service acute-care medical center in the 9-parish area of Acadiana. Allen is also a trustee of the Pennington Biomedical Research Foundation, the largest academic-based nutritional research center in the world which promotes healthier lives through research and education in nutrition and preventive medicine.
