Melancon: “Thank You”

November 4, 2010

Although we didn’t win yesterday, we still have plenty to be proud of. I’m proud of the values we fought for, and the work we did. But mostly, I’m proud of you. You were with me every step of the way, and I want you to know I’m truly grateful for all you did.

We knew this was an uphill climb, but we still fought hard. The pundits told us we wouldn’t even come close, but we proved them wrong. We gave David Vitter a run for his money, and kept him fighting until the very end.

You were a key part of all this. Louisianians like you gave their time, money, and votes, and while we didn’t win we built a grassroots movement the likes of which we’ve rarely seen. That’s something to be proud of.

I hope that yesterday’s real winner was Louisiana. I’ve always said we need to put Louisiana first, and we put the spotlight on many important issues that affect the people of our great state. From equal pay for equal work to Wall Street reform to holding BP accountable, we began important work that will long outlive our campaign.

Thank you again for everything you did. You were the very foundation of our campaign, and I’m awed by your enthusiasm and commitment to your fellow Louisianians. Regardless of what happened, I’m honored to have had your support.
