Sangisetty: “Landry Advocates for BP, Not Taxpayers “

October 27, 2010

“Jeff Landry believes that companies like BP should only pay for part of their mess, and the taxpayers should be on the hook for the rest.”

HOUMA, La. — Ravi Sangisetty, Democratic nominee for Congress in Louisiana’s Third District, said holding BP’s feet to the fire until this coast is made whole must be the top priority for the 3rd District’s next Congressman.

“Our coast was hit by the largest ecological disaster in this country’s history,” Sangisetty said. “Our wetlands are in jeopardy, our fishermen are out of work and our tourism industries are hurting badly. We need to hold BP one hundred percent accountable for their disaster.”

Making the taxpayer pay for BP’s mess is exactly what Jeff Landry wants to do, said Sangisetty for Congress Campaign Manager Julienne Uhlich.

“Landry refuses to say that he is opposed to liability caps,” she said. “Jeff Landry believes that companies like BP should only pay for part of their mess, and the taxpayers should be on the hook for the rest.”

Uhlich pointed to a quote from Landry in a recent debate.

Landry said there would be, “Devastating effects if we make the wrong decisions or if someone doesn’t go and advocate the importance of our oil and gas industry in Louisiana. And I certainly intend to do this.”

Uhlich said the 3rd District needs someone to advocate the position of the people, not just the oil and gas industry.
