October 19, 2010

New Orleans, LA – On Tuesday, October 19th, Congressman Anh “Joseph” Cao (LA-2) will host a hearing on the effects of Chinese drywall on both local and national communities.

Cao said, “I will be joined by representatives from the CPSC, the Louisiana State Attorney General’s Office and the Office of Community Development’s Disaster Recovery Unit so that we can gain valuable information on the testing criteria, detection and remediation of this debilitating product. This meeting will give residents of Louisiana’s 2nd Congressional District the opportunity to receive additional information about the state’s lawsuit, remediation assistance, and the latest research into the content and dangers of the drywall.”

Who: Congressman Anh “Joseph” Cao and Federal, State & Local Officials
What: Chinese Drywall Hearing
Where: Nunmaker Hall on the campus of Loyola University of New Orleans
When: Tuesday, October 19, 2010
Time: 11:00 a.m. CST until 1:00 p.m. CST
**note time change from previous release

Cao said, “Despite these noted problems, the CPSC believes residents in Louisiana are under-reporting drywall contamination. To make sure that financial assistance given to drywall victims is sufficient, it is important to have an accurate count of the number of affected homes. Last year in December, I held a townhall with state and federal officials to provide information about resources and help people register their homes. I will repeat the town hall this year to update the public with the good news about the testing procedures, the remediation of our residents’ homes and the lawsuit settlement, which allows for people to be made whole again.”
