Melancon: “Vitter Hiding Again”

September 1, 2010

Yesterday, I challenged David Vitter to a series of five live, televised town-hall style debates so that Louisiana voters can learn more about where all the candidates for Senate stand on the major issues facing Louisiana.

But in keeping with his long-standing tradition of hiding from unscreened questions from all but the friendliest of audiences, Vitter has so far refused our challenge.

What is Vitter so afraid of? Doesn’t he realize that part of representing the people of Louisiana is taking questions from all comers?

Add your name in support of our Debate Challenge today — and tell David Vitter that a U.S. Senator answers to the voters, not to Washington!

While David Vitter and I don’t see eye to eye on many issues, I’m sure that even he would agree on one thing: the people of Louisiana deserve the chance to directly question their candidates for public office.

These are unprecedented times. Our nation is dealing with the most severe economic downturn since the Great Depression. Louisiana is fighting the largest oil spill in U.S. history, with far-reaching environmental and economic consequences. Thousands of Louisianians are still recovering from Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Gustav, and Ike.

These times demand honest, effective leadership, and we owe it to the people of Louisiana to answer questions in a neutral, open forum.

Tell Vitter to stop playing games and agree to debate — add your name to our Debate Challenge right now!

Hiding from questions might have worked for David Vitter in Washington, but this race is about Louisiana.

We need to allow real people to ask us real, unscreened questions and force us to defend and explain our positions, our actions, and our records. We’re running for Senate — we should answer to as many voters as possible before Election Day.

Thanks for your support,

Charlie Melancon
Candidate for U.S. Senate

P.S. David Vitter shouldn’t be allowed to dodge questions and accountability all the way to Election Day. Tell him to finally face the voters by signing on to our Debate Challenge now!
