Melancon Camp: “We Deserve Better”

August 31, 2010

With our primary victory behind us, it’s time to refocus our efforts on the general election fight ahead — but we don’t have much time.

We only have 63 days to remind the voters that Louisiana deserves better than David Vitter representing us in the Senate.

We need your support to get this message out, and there’s no time to waste.

It seems hard to believe that David Vitter’s laundry list of scandals could get any longer, but just last week another shoe dropped in the case of the violent staffer that Vitter put in charge of “women’s issues” in his senate office.

You might recall that David Vitter has yet to truly answer questions about what he knew and when he knew it. Not after the initial story broke, and not even after it was revealed that Vitter let the taxpayers foot the bill to fly the staffer down to Louisiana on dates coinciding with his court appearances.

But it turns out that Vitter had time to do one thing — when the story was just breaking, his campaign team furiously dialed local newspapers to urge them to soft-pedal some of the allegations of violent acts committed by the staffer.

As Talking Points Memo reported, “Vitter attorneys pressured Louisiana newspapers to soften coverage of his violent aide.”

What does that say about Vitter’s priorities? He can’t be bothered to explain his actions to his constituents, but he doesn’t waste a minute when it comes to hiding the truth for his own personal benefit.

We can’t take stand for this anymore. Contribute $5 right now to help us beat David Vitter:

I’ve seen a lot of races in my day, but rarely have I seen one that presented as clear a choice as David Vitter vs. Charlie Melancon.

With your help, we’ll beat David Vitter this fall and give Louisianians a senator that we can be proud of.
