“In South Louisiana, we’ve suffered under a broken Washington for too long.”

HOUMA, La. — Ravi Sangisetty, Democratic nominee for Congress in Louisiana’s Third District, applauded Representative Melancon today for fighting for coastal restoration and lifting the drilling moratorium.

“In South Louisiana, we’ve suffered under a broken Washington for too long,” Sangisetty said. “For over 100 days we’ve faced losing drilling jobs, and for decades we’ve faced losing our coast.”

Representative Melancon offered an amendment to lift the drilling moratorium and provide $1.2 billion from BP’s oil spill penalties toward coastal restoration.

“I thank Representative Melancon for fighting for our economic future and our way of life,” Sangisetty said. “We need to hold BP 100 percent accountable for the disaster they’ve created, and we need to get our men and women back to work.”
