Reps. Melancon, Hill Announce Friendly Wager on Saints-Colts Super Bowl Game
February 3, 2010
WASHINGTON—Congressman Charlie Melancon (LA-03) and Congressman Baron Hill (IN-09) announced today that they have made a friendly wager on the outcome of Sunday’s Super Bowl XLIV between the New Orleans Saints and the Indianapolis Colts.
When the Saints win, Congressman Hill will give Congressman Melancon an assortment of candy from Shimpff’s confectionery in Jeffersonville, IN, along with DVDs of the Hoosier sports movie trilogy: “Hoosiers,” “Rudy,” and “Breaking Away.”
In the unlikely event that the Colts come out ahead, Congressman Melancon will make a homemade gumbo and deliver it, along with a Mardi Gras king cake, to Congressman Hill.
“The Who Dat Nation has waited decades for this moment and we know Drew Brees will lead the Saints to victory in their first Super Bowl,” said Congressman Melancon. “As a former ice cream shop owner, I look forward to sampling Indiana’s finest candy after the Colts stumble to defeat. I’ll be making a gumbo on Sunday, but it won’t be for Baron Hill.”
Congressman Hill responded, “Perhaps my good friend and his football team should watch these athletically-inspiring movies before the game because they’re going to need all the help they can get. The Colts are a formidable team and I have every confidence they will win the day.”
