Vitter Announces VA Progress Toward Establishing Lake Charles Clinic
(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Sen. David Vitter today announced that the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has made progress in its effort to establish a community-based outpatient clinic (CBOC) in Lake Charles.
“I’m pleased to see that this effort is moving forward, and I will continue to put pressure on the VA to complete this process as efficiently as possible,” said Vitter. “As VA officials work to identify a suitable location for the clinic, we’re one step closer to providing veterans across southwest Louisiana access to the full range of health care services they deserve.”
According to the VA, 20 parties have expressed interest in offering a site for the CBOC, and VA officials will make site visits on Aug. 6 to determine if an existing facility can be modified or if the VA needs to build a new facility for the CBOC. The CBOC could be operational as soon as the middle of next year if there is a suitable existing facility, or by 2012 if a new facility must be built.
