Melancon Claim: “Dead Heat”

July 23, 2010

Late last night, I received some very exciting news.

Our latest polling shows that this race is a dead heat: 43%-44%.

We’re now in position to win this race, but we need your help to make that happen.
Contribute $5 or more now so that we can continue to get our message out to
Louisiana voters:

When we started this race last year, we were trailing David Vitter in the polls.
Why? Because Vitter had two things we didn’t: name recognition and lots and lots of

But as we’ve been getting our message out across the state, voters have begun
joining our campaign because they want a more bipartisan, more honest, and more
effective voice in the U.S. Senate putting Louisiana first.

I’ve seen this growing enthusiasm as I’ve traveled across Louisiana, and this new
poll confirms it.

We will win this race if we continue to spread our message to Louisiana voters –
but that takes money. Please make a contribution of $5 or more today:

The pundits and the press have been talking ad nauseam about how 2010 is likely to
be a bad year for Democrats. But this poll shows that, of all the Senate races this
year, we have the best shot at beating a Republican incumbent.

Now that’s pretty big.

As I’ve said before, our momentum in the polls means that a scared David Vitter is
just going to spend more of his time engaging in one of his favorite pastimes:
conjuring up elaborate untruths — this time about me, my record, and this campaign.

That’s why it’s so important that we have the resources we’ll need to fight the
smears, correct the record, and make sure everyday Louisianians know which candidate
is really going to fight for them.

Please, make a contribution today.

I would not be where I am today without your steadfast support.

Thank you,

Charlie Melancon
Candidate for U.S. Senate
