Vitter Comments on DOJ Lawsuit Against Arizona

July 6, 2010

(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Sen. David Vitter today made the following statement in response to news reports that the U.S. Department of Justice will soon sue the state of Arizona over its new law cracking down on illegal immigration:

“The state of Arizona is simply taking responsibility for a problem that the federal government has neglected for years, but Washington’s only response is to oppose these new enforcement efforts and take them to court.

“The federal government should be aiding the Arizona government, not suing it. But it’s clear from this lawsuit and President Obama’s speech last week that this administration is more focused on promoting amnesty for illegal immigrants than it is on enforcing our immigration laws and strengthening border security,” said Vitter.

Vitter is the chairman of the U.S. Senate Border Security and Enforcement First Immigration Caucus.
