Scalise: Supreme Court Rules in Favor of Second Amendment, Gun Owners

June 29, 2010

Washington, DC — Congressman Steve Scalise today applauded the U.S. Supreme Court for ruling in favor of the Second Amendment by deciding that the Second Amendment applies to state and local gun laws. The Court ruled 5 – 4 in favor of the Second Amendment and an individual’s right to keep and bear arms.

“Today’s decision confirms beyond a shadow of a doubt that Second Amendment rights apply both nationally and locally, and this is welcome news to gun owners all across the country,” Scalise said. “As a member of the Congressional Second Amendment Taskforce, I applaud today’s Supreme Court decision and vow to continue fighting to ensure that our rights to keep and bear arms are never infringed.”

A lower appeals court will now issue a decision on the McDonald vs. City of Chicago case.
