Due to the hazardous risks associated with the oil cleaup efforts, children under 18 have not been allowed to volunteer. They do, however, have feelings and a voice that needs to be heard. “Save the Pelicans! Save the Oysters! Mop Up this Mess!” A rally has been organized named “Out of the Mouth’s of Babes” Let their ideas be heard, let the leaders of today see how the leaders of the future would handle this complex situation of 50 days of gushing oil spoiling their “playground” their home but most of all their cultural heritage.

Please encourage your child or children to attend with homemade signs, help them write their feelings down and practice with them if they would like to stand up and share their thoughts and feelings with a group. We are asking for children from ages 5yrs-10 yrs old (kindergarten to fifth grade) to stand up and speak. This doesn’t mean that children older then this can not participate. We ask that speeches be no longer then two to five minutes.

We ask that kids try to concentrate on positive solutions, no matter if it is silly to adults, it’s not to the kids. There will be a LARGE homemade boom for the children to parade around on the service road, along with their signs. Encourage your kids to dress as scientist or oil field workers with hard hats, lab coats & safety goggles. We will be playing the tune “Ghost Busters” but re-naming it “Oil Busters”-a song sheet will be provided.

The significance of this location is that it is the site less than 5 years ago Hurricane Katrina washed up two Pogey Boats that remained there for months. That location is notorious for those pictures of the hurricane’s power of the storm. At this time, it will be tiny voices that will be the power of a storm, for it is the children that will be our leaders of the future and their voices will be heard in a meaningful way. If possible, please find the time to participate.

If you have any questions or would like to help, please contact me at (504-430-2855). Please note, all children are welcome. We ask you to take a ride into Plaquemines Parish and show your support. Thank you for your consideration
