Governor Bobby Jindal Announces the Appointment of James “Jim” Hicks to the Louisiana Motor Vehicle Commission

BATON ROUGE- Today, Governor Bobby Jindal announced the appointment of James “Jim” Hicks to the Louisiana Motor Vehicle Commission.

The Louisiana Motor Vehicle Commission regulates and licenses motor vehicle manufacturers, distributors, dealers, and leasers. All members are appointed by the governor and subject to Senate confirmation.

According to statute, the commission is comprised of eighteen gubernatorial appointments including the chair of the commission plus three members selected from the state at-large and fourteen members appointed from the eight motor vehicle districts. Of these fourteen members, one member shall be primarily engaged in the business of lease or rental, one member shall be primarily engaged in the business of heavy truck sales, three members shall be primarily engaged in the business of recreational products, and one member shall be primarily engaged in the business of sales finance. Each member must have been engaged in manufacturing, distribution, or sale of motor vehicles in Louisiana for not less than five consecutive years.

James “Jim” Hicks, of Bossier, is the president of Southern RV, Inc. Hicks will be appointed to serve as a member primarily engaged in the business of recreational products, as required by statute
