Cao Sponsors Claims Fair for Oil Spill Victims

Congressman Anh “Joseph” Cao (LA-02) today announced he will hold a Claims Fair for all oil spill victims on Monday in Westwego. Details are as follows:

What: An Oil Spill Claims Fair

When: Monday, May 24, 9 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Where: Alario Center, 2000 Segnette Boulevard, Westwego, LA

Why: To provide a convenient time and place to file claims, request help, volunteer or get information

Congressman Cao and his staff will be on hand to assist both constituents in Louisiana’s 2nd Congressional District as well as victims living anywhere else in South Louisiana.

BP representatives will be there to take claim applications for damage or injury, provide training for the Vessel of Opportunity volunteer program, explain company processes and procedures and deliver briefings on the cleanup operation. Federal authorities monitoring and coordinating the joint response from the Unified Command Center will also be present to brief the public and answer questions.

The schedule is as follows:

9 a.m. – 10 a.m. – Briefing by the Unified Command Center
10 a.m. – 11 a.m. – Question and Answer Session
12 noon – 7 p.m. – Hourly Briefings in the Gym Area
11 a.m. – 3 p.m. – Vessel of Opportunity Training Course
3 p.m. – 7 p.m. – Vessel of Opportunity Training Course
All Day – Claims Center Open
All Day – Secondary Resources Available

Secondary services to be provided at the Fair will include medical screening and social services.

The Claims Fair is free and open to the general public.

Certified translators will be available to non-English speakers or those who speak English as a second language.
